A Virtual Supply Chain

Supply chain resilience is a huge concern in today’s febrile world. The costs and complexity of dual sourcing are unwanted, but necessary, in a world where one missing component leads to significant downstream issues. But the costs and complexity of dual sourcing often means the risk of single sourcing is accepted.

Sarginsons has developed a methodology which puts in place a short term emergency supply of cast components, within the time allowed by the stocks held. The essence of the solution is that a larger part of the time critical elements in emergency supply are softer issues, programmes and paperwork, that can be organised well in advance, leaving the harder items, tools and fixtures, for which a number of solutions exist.

This is a totally unique supply chain solution for aluminium cast components that requires an in depth understanding of the casting process, an ability to control TYE performance and an in house CNC, fixture and pattern making capability.

Supply Failure is Temporary

When supply is interrupted a rapid, temporary solution needs to be initiated before stocks are exhausted. Sarginsons virtualises this secondary production process in advance, undertaking all the softer items whilst putting in place solutions for sourcing harder elements, such as tooling and fixturing.

A Different Form of Insurance

The likelihood is that the virtual supply chain will not be used but it's existence will serve to reduce the risk of Business Interruption and the  expensive insurance that protects against it. Sarginsons virtual supply chain for cast products is risk mitigation and disaster planning so it is, in itself, a cheaper form of insurance.

Perfect Prototyping Principles

Sarginsons has developed technologies which help this process by allowing it to cast short runs of production components, with the same mechanical characteristics, in sand or soft tooling. With heat treatment fixtures and CNC programmes created in advance, Sarginsons is able to quickly initiate a secondary supply chain for as long as required.

Key Points

  • Lower Cost Emergency Supply
  • Reduced Insurance Costs
  • Simple to Adapt and Upgrade
  • Rapid and Simple Implementation
  • Total Peace of Mind

Virtual Supply, Real Economies

In being able to make components with the same mechanical characteristics as production parts, despite differing production methods such as sand casting, it is possible to organise an emergency supply chain at minimal cost; reducing insurance bills and stress levels.
