Low pressure die casting sits at the heart of Sarginsons. Our longstanding low pressure casting facility uses permanent tooling to produce ultra low porosity, high-strength aluminium components for production programmes.
In low pressure die casting, molten aluminium is gently pushed from a sealed furnace into a permanent die using low gas pressure, typically up to around 1 bar. The metal fills the cavity from the bottom up, giving controlled, non-turbulent filling and directional solidification.
Sarginsons’ beating heart is its low pressure casting facility, using hard tooling to produce ultra low porosity castings with enhanced mechanical strength for production applications.
Low pressure die casting comes into its own when you need large, highly engineered aluminium components with outstanding mechanical performance and consistency.
As electric vehicles and lightweighting push towards larger, one-piece castings, low pressure die casting provides the mechanical strength and low porosity needed to make those designs viable.
Every project is unique, but our approach is consistent, data-driven and collaborative:
Concept & Simulation – We review CAD, loading and targets, then run Digital Twin Simulations and solidification analyses to shape the casting concept and de-risk the design.
Tooling & Cell Design – We design the low pressure die, riser tube interface, gating and cooling strategy, and define the shot cycle (raise, fill, intensify, hold, drop) for optimal quality.
Die Manufacture & Prove-Out – Tools are manufactured, installed and proven out on our low pressure cells, with simulation and real-world data used to refine process parameters.
Casting & Heat Treatment – Components are cast under tightly controlled pressure and temperature conditions, then heat treated to achieve specified mechanical properties.
Machining, Inspection & Validation – Castings can be CNC machined, finished and fully inspected, with continuous feedback loops from metrology and in-service data feeding back into our digital models.
This integrated process ensures repeatable, high-integrity low pressure castings from first prototypes to mature production.
Sarginsons brings together process range, technology and control in one aluminium foundry:
Whether you are developing a new lightweight platform, consolidating assemblies into single castings, or seeking a more robust route than traditional processes, our team can help you decide if low pressure die casting is the right solution – and show you what’s possible with Intelligent Aluminium.
